Eles dizem que você é ou uma pessoa de montanha ou uma pessoa de praia. Now I don’t be discriminatin between the two, but one thing is for sure – this past summer’s epic roadtrip around the USA was all about the mountains.

Confesso que nunca tinha ouvido falar sobre o Parque Nacional Glacier, até os últimos anos. Everyone knows about the mountains in Colorado & California, but Glacier National Park in Montana? Não muito.

But after spending a full week there, and nearly 2 months zig-zagging down the spine of the US Rocky Mountains, I am publicly declaring Glacier National Park para ser o mais belo trecho de terra que eu já coloquei os olhos no país.

“A Coroa do Continente”

George Bird Grinnell gave Glacier National Park this nickname in 1901, e por uma boa razão. Glacier National Park displays some of the most espectacular terreno esculpida à geleira qualquer lugar do planeta.

Ok, looks beautiful, but why the rush to see it?

Unfortunately there is a call to action with this post, e que a chamada é go visit Glacier National Park as soon as possible! We saw multiple glaciers from afar, but took the opportunity to get up close and personal with Grinnell Glacier overlook. Mas uma vez que finalmente pôs os olhos nela, it was both breathtaking & sobering at the same time. Grinnell Glacier ainda é impressionante, but clearly a remnant of what it once was. Junto com mosquitos, besouro do pinheiro é uma daquelas criaturas que faz com que você pergunte a si mesmo, “Por que não poderia ter Noah só deixou esses caras fora da arca?” I’m sure they occupy some obscure but vital part of the food chain, ele só parece como se a vida seria melhor sem o besouro de pinheiro.

Ao longo das últimas décadas, este bug desagradável foi dizimando árvores acima e abaixo das Montanhas Rochosas, leaving millions of acres of dead pine trees. Há poucas coisas mais decepcionante do que bufando & puffing all the way up a mountain, apenas a crista do cume e descobrir uma paisagem cheia com estéril, dead-looking trees that stretch on into the horizon.

Aumento de incêndios florestais

Quando você combina milhares de acres de mortos & secagem árvores com as temperaturas mais quentes e neve derretendo mais cedo a cada ano, você começa incêndios maiores e mais desagradáveis.

Thank God we visited the park in July, because literally the week after we left the Reynolds Creek Wildland Fire broke out & quickly engulfed entire sections of the park. Grande parte do parque foi evacuado, reservations were cancelled, and many summer plans ruined.

Of course nothing like this can be predicted, but with studies showing that both fire frequency & documented burn areas are increasing, it’s probably best to visit Glacier National Park sooner rather than later.

Perda de Alpine Meadows e Vida Selvagem

É mais Lotado Cada Ano

Dentro 2014, mais pessoas visitaram sites de National Park Service do que qualquer outro ano da história – 292.8 milhão de pessoas para ser exato. 2014 foi também um ano recorde para Glacier National Park, em específico.

The point of national parks is to go & experiência natureza e é o melhor, e massas de turistas clicando obturador andando por aí & tendo selfies só pode desvirtuar essa experiência!

Hidden Lake Overlook hike, and down to lake shore – where we saw the grizzly bears!

Highline Trail – Logan Pass to “The Loop” 12 mile hike – one of most scenic hikes on Earth

Grinnell Glacier Overlook – fora do Trail Highline, strenuous climb but worth it.

St. Lake Mary – a scenic lake to relax all day in the sun & contemplate the view

Correr águia cai – the river shoots straight out of the rock, e you can cliff jump

Whitewater rafted & fished the Flatwater River – we floated the chill, Middle Fork section

Visit Glacier National Park Before It Changes!

These aren’t scare tactics. Este não é um passo de vendas. Eu sou apenas apaixonado sobre a partilha de lugares incríveis com outras pessoas. Especially if those places are in danger of changing forever, then I want to communicate a sense of urgency.

There is no doubt that climate change is quickly and negatively affecting the beauty & ecossistema do parque, so take advantage of living in 2015 and go visit Glacier National Park while it still has glaciers! Sadly, we may be part of the last generation that actually has that opportunity.
